Free version and KeepNinja Plus
What is the difference between the free version and KeepNinja Plus?
Both have every feature. In the free version, deleting and moving files older than 6 months needs rewards from optional short videos. KeepNinja Plus has no age limit and no videos. Read more in Free version and KeepNinja Plus.
How does the Cleanup calendar work?
Each optional short video you watch to the end earns 1 reward. Each reward unlocks 10 days with files older than 6 months, so you can delete or move them. Read more in Older files: the Cleanup calendar.
Do I have to watch videos?
No. KeepNinja never shows an ad unless you choose to watch one. Videos play only when you tap Watch a video to earn a reward. With KeepNinja Plus, there are no videos at all.
Why does KeepNinja say that some files are from locked days?
In the free version, deleting and moving files older than 6 months needs their days to be unlocked in the Cleanup calendar first. When some of the files are from locked days, Delete forever and Move ask first. You can continue without those files, or continue with all the files when you have enough rewards. KeepNinja Plus has no age limit.
Why is no video available?
Watch a video shows No video right now when Google's ad service has no video for you, such as without an internet connection. Try again later. Between videos, it shows when the next one is ready: up to 6 videos a day, at least 1 hour apart.
I bought KeepNinja Plus, but the app does not show it
- Open the Play Store and check that it uses the Google account you bought KeepNinja Plus with.
- In KeepNinja, open ☰ > KeepNinja Plus and tap Already purchased? to get it back.
- If it still does not show, write to support@keepninja.com with the order number from your Google Play receipt email. It starts with GPA.
How do I get a refund?
Within 48 hours of buying, you can ask Google Play for a refund:
- Go to play.google.com and sign in with the Google account you bought it with.
- At the top right, tap or click your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions > Budget & order history.
- Next to the order, choose Report a problem, and say in the form that you would like a refund.
Google usually decides within one day, and at most within four days (Google Play Help). A refund removes KeepNinja Plus.
After 48 hours, write to us at support@keepninja.com with your order number. We give a refund when KeepNinja Plus does not work as described.
How do I change my ad privacy choices?
In the free version, open ☰ > Settings > Popups and messages > Ad privacy choices. It shows only where the law requires this choice.
Your files
Why does KeepNinja not show some of my files?
KeepNinja shows the photos, videos and audio files that your device shares with apps. A file may be missing for one of these reasons:
- Access to only some photos and videos. KeepNinja can only check the ones you allowed. To allow all of them, open ☰ > Permissions and tap Open device settings for KeepNinja.
- Audio files. They need their own access, which KeepNinja asks for when you open Audio.
- Private folders. Some apps and device features keep files in private folders that other apps cannot see, such as Locked Folder in Google Photos (Google) and Secure Folder on Samsung devices (Samsung).
- Chat apps. Photos and videos from chats show only after the chat app saves them to your device's gallery. WhatsApp does this while Media visibility is on, which is the default (WhatsApp Help). Viber saves the photos you receive while Save to gallery is on (Viber Help), and Telegram saves media by its settings for saving to the gallery (Telegram).
- Files only in the cloud. Photos and videos that are only in a cloud service, and no longer on your device, do not show. For example, Free up space in Google Photos removes the copies on your device, and they stay only in Google Photos (Google).
Does deleting a file in KeepNinja also delete my cloud backup?
KeepNinja deletes files only on your device. Whether a copy in your cloud stays depends on the cloud service. For example:
- Google Photos: the copy stays if the Google Photos app backs up your device. Google says you can then delete the copies on your device and still find the backed-up copies in Google Photos (Android Help). It is different if your device's gallery app syncs with Google Photos, such as Samsung Gallery with Sync photos and videos on. Then deleting a file on your device can also delete it from Google Photos (Samsung Support, Google Photos Help).
- OneDrive: the copy stays. Microsoft says the OneDrive app backs up your device's camera roll one way only, so you can delete backed-up photos and videos from your device, and the copies in OneDrive are not affected (Microsoft Support).
- Dropbox: the copy stays. Dropbox says its camera uploads back up your photos and videos while freeing space on your device (Dropbox Help).
Before you tap Delete forever, check that the files you want a copy of are in your cloud.
Can I get a file back after deleting it?
KeepNinja never deletes anything by itself. Marking a file only puts it in Marked for removal, which works like the trash, but it is never emptied automatically: the file stays on your device, and you can unmark it at any time.
Only Delete forever deletes files, after your device asks you to confirm. This is the same as emptying the device's trash: deleted files cannot be restored.
Where does Move put my files?
Into the folder you choose, or into a new folder. New folders are made in Pictures, for videos in Pictures or Movies as you choose, and in Music for audio files. Files you move are kept, and a marked file is unmarked when it moves. Files in a folder that belongs to another app cannot be moved.
Why does my device ask before every delete or move?
KeepNinja gets no permission to delete or move files in advance. Every time it deletes files or moves them to a folder, your device asks you first, and nothing changes unless you allow it.
Settings and devices
Can I change what counts as similar, large or old?
- Similar shots: above the groups, choose how alike photos must be: Strict, Normal or Loose.
- Large videos and Large photos: tap the size above the files and type a new one.
- By folder: tap the age above a folder's files, such as Any age, to show only the files older than an age.
You can also change them in ☰ > Settings > Cleanup categories.
How do I change the language?
Tap Language, with the globe, at the top of the menu ☰. It opens the Language section of Settings. KeepNinja is available in 12 languages: English, Bahasa Indonesia, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Nederlands, Português (Brasil), Srpski, Türkçe, हिन्दी and 日本語.
What happens if I uninstall KeepNinja or get a new device?
Your files stay as they are. Uninstalling KeepNinja does not change them. Marks are only KeepNinja's notes about files you consider for removal.
- KeepNinja Plus belongs to your Google account. After you install KeepNinja again, on this device or a new one, tap Already purchased? on the KeepNinja Plus page.
- Rewards, unlocked days, settings and marks are saved only in KeepNinja's storage on your device. They come back only if your device restores KeepNinja's app data from your Google account backup (Google). Google says that not all apps can back up and restore all their data.
- On a new device, marks start empty, because each mark belongs to a file on your old device.
Which devices does KeepNinja work on?
Phones and tablets with Android 11 or newer, including foldables.
Privacy
Does KeepNinja upload my files?
No. KeepNinja never uploads your files anywhere, and no server or AI service sees them. It needs access to your photos, videos and audio to find what is worth reviewing, and it reads them only on your device. It has no analytics and no crash reporting. It uses the internet only for the optional videos in the free version and to check KeepNinja Plus. Read the privacy policy.
